Stephen McCaffery

Business Law & Commercial Property Solicitor

Stephen has been on a diverse legal journey since qualifying as a solicitor in 2021 and has already gained a wealth of experience in Commercial Property and Business Law.

A graduate of the University of Sunderland, Stephen earned his Masters in Law and Legal Practice Course (LPC) in 2017. He began his career in the Commercial Property department of a prominent Newcastle law firm, before gaining valuable experience as a Paralegal. Stephen’s most recent role was as in-house counsel for an online bank, having previously acted as a Commercial Property lawyer.

Stephen sees a natural synergy between Business Law and Commercial Property and he is excited by his return to client-facing work because he values the opportunity to build strong relationships and tackle diverse cases on a daily basis.

Away from work

Born and raised in Newcastle, Stephen now calls Durham home, where he lives with his wife. While firmly rooted in the North East, the pair are avid travellers with a shared love for planning their next adventure. Their favourite destination is North America and they have made countless trips to Orlando for Disney fun, explored Illinois and Chicago, and visited friends across the pond.

What are your main interests or hobbies?

I’m a massive Newcastle United fan and love watching their games, but I don’t go as often as I’d like to because it’s difficult to get a ticket. I also enjoy watching most US sports – including baseball, basketball and American Football.

What music do you like – any specific genre or artists?

My wife and I are massive country music fans and we love going to gigs. I like a real mix of anything from Johnny Cash and Luke Combs to Chris Stapleton and Zach Bryan, who we were lucky to see in Glasgow in April 2023.

What’s your favourite food?

I do love a good burger – an absolute classic that you can dress up or down in many ways. I like a fried egg on mine, but if a burger was not available, I’d probably order pizza as that’s my other favourite.

What film or boxset would you recommend to others?

The Walking Dead is one box set that I have watched from start to finish with my wife and neither of us got tired of it, which is saying something considering there are 12 seasons and around 200 episodes. Film wise, I’d probably go for Batman as it’s one of my all-time favourites

Do you have a favourite book and why?

I’m more of a comic man myself and I love reading any which are DC related – such as the Batman series. When I do pick up a book, I like to read thrillers or detective-type stories like Jack Reacher. I do also read non-fiction because I like to learn about historical events or places, particularly the history of America.

Is there a smartphone App you could not live without?

Google – I love to research things that I’m into and it’s a treasure trove of information. I also use it to find the latest transfer gossip for Newcastle United.

How would you describe yourself in 5 words?

Organised, considerate, personable, dedicated and meticulous.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?

Buy some Bitcoin. I’d be retired by now!
