Jonathan Crawford

Clinical Negligence Solicitor

An excellent communicator, Jonathan is a Clinical Negligence specialist who deals with complex and high-value cases. Since joining us in 2008, he has gained a great insight into the medical profession and enjoys having the autonomy to manage his own caseload.

His specialist areas include cancer misdiagnosis, spinal injury, brain injury particularly due to stroke, cardiology, ophthalmic injury, orthopaedics, bowel injuries sustained during surgery, cosmetic surgery mistakes, obstetrics and gynaecology.

Having not started his law career until his 30s, Jonathan boasts a broad range of life experience and is great at dealing with people after previously holding roles as a retail manager and mortgage adviser. He qualified as a solicitor in 2002 after gaining an Honours degree in Law from Northumbria University, where he won the Northern Rock prize for best part-time student in 1995.

He loves being part of a friendly team that fights hard to achieve justice for people who have sometimes suffered devastating and life-changing injuries, caused by routine processes not being properly carried out by medical professionals.

Away from work

Originally from County Durham, Jonathan now lives in a village just outside Durham with his wife and loves being outside in the fresh air during his free time. He has 2 grown up children, one being at university. If he is not hiking in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors; he can usually be found trying to reduce his six-handicap on the fairways at Castle Eden Golf Course.

What music do you like – any specific genre or artists?

My main genre is probably Indie music, but I enjoy a wide range of music. I really like Big Thief at the moment, an American folk-rock band. But I do enjoy listening to a bit of everything – from Led Zeppelin, to the Cure or Laura Marling right through to Radiohead. My son even has me listening to rap.

What’s your favourite food?

Fresh fish is my favourite and I’d probably opt for pan-fried Sea Bass if I eat out at a restaurant. If I am on holiday, BBQ fish is my go-to meal.

Do you have a favourite book and why?

I like to read a wide variety of books, from non-fiction and political books to biographies and thrillers. I also like historical fiction. William Boyd is one of my favourite authors, but the book I’d recommend is Cider with Rosie, an evocative take on a very different, simpler world.

What film or boxset would you recommend to others?

I was a massive fan of Sopranos but Succession is the best thing I have seen recently. It’s a great insight into another world – rich people who are truly horrible and only interested in themselves.
