Alixandra Cadden-Young

Director, Solicitor & Head of Clinical Negligence

A specialist in complex and high-value cases, Alixandra was appointed as Head of the Clinical Negligence department in 2023, where she draws upon her previous Nursing experience to provide our clients with a unique insight into patient contact and best practice guidelines.

Having studied Adult Nursing at the University of East Anglia, Alixandra enjoyed a three-year spell working in NHS hospitals and wards, meaning she is extremely knowledgeable about clinical care practices. She now uses that experience to discuss the circumstances our clients have encountered, helping them to understand the correct procedural processes that should be followed.

Since joining us in 2015, she has worked on a broad range of negligence issues, from Birth Injuries and Surgical Errors to Orthopaedic issues. Alixandra originally worked as a Defendant Solicitor for a large multi-national firm, and practiced in the areas of Employment Law and Personal Injury, after qualifying as a Solicitor in 2013, following her Law Degree and Legal Practice Course studies at Northumbria University.

Away from work

A proud North East native, Alixandra was born and raised and lives in Northumberland. She loves to travel and is a real foodie. Alixandra spends most weekends travelling the country at food festivals, helping with her partner’s artisan condiments business.

What are your main interests or hobbies?

I do enjoy pulling on my trainers and going for a 5k run and I’m hoping to take part in the Great North Run in 2023, to raise money for Breast Cancer Charities, in honour of my late mother (if I can get a place).  I also like to get on my Peloton bike – when I have the motivation!

I love to go for a walk in the hills. I really like learning about history and archaeology so I love to find new sites. If I am feeling lazy, I spend time with my three cats, or my daughter when she comes home from university.

What music do you like – any specific genre or artists?

When I was a student I used to perform as a cabaret artist so I love listening all types of music from French Jazz to Stormzy, but my favourite is probably the Carpenters. I also like the Beautiful South and recently went to see Paul Heaton in concert. He was amazing!

How would you describe yourself in 5 words?

Relaxed, Approachable, Reasonable, Knowledgeable and Tenacious.

What’s your favourite food?

Cooking is one of my passions and I love to cook any Ottolenghi style dishes as I love using Middle Eastern herbs, spices and pulses. Although I don’t eat meat, I’m a Pescatarian as I cannot give up seafood. I like it too much!

What film or boxset would you recommend to others?

I really enjoy anything with a historical element to it, like Game of Thrones and The Spanish Princess, which is based on the book Philippa Gregory. I also loved Happy Valley – very gripping right to the end.

Do you have a favourite book and why?

Historical fiction books always seem to draw me in and I’d recommend anything by Bernard Cornwall. Dianna Gabaldon is another great writer and I loved her Outlander series. I also tend to listen to a lot of audio books when I’m driving around.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?

Drink less wine.
