Exciting work experience initiative launched with University of Sunderland
LONGDEN, Walker and Renney Solicitors are delighted to have launched a new partnership with the University of Sunderland to offer its law students the chance to gain sought-after work experience.
The career-enhancing opportunity will allow us to play an important role in nurturing the next generation of lawyers and give something back to the community we serve.
As part of their university studies, students on the Undergraduate Law Degree at the University of Sunderland (LLB Hons Law), students can participate in a work placement module, as part of the module they are required to complete 70 hours of work experience.
By giving them the opportunity to work alongside our experienced solicitors, they will be able to improve their client interviewing skills, gain case management experience and see how to offer and write professional legal advice.
Souphia Taghiakbari (Clinical Negligence), Jack Maddison (Civil Litigation) and Shristi Malla (Probate & Estates, inset) are the first intake of second year students on the placement module who are already balancing working in our offices alongside their degree studies.
Interestingly, the trio are treading a proven path to success as Amy Nesbitt, who was promoted to the board of directors in November 2023, started her career with us in similar fashion just over a decade ago.
Alixandra Cadden-Young, Head of Clinical Negligence, sees this outstanding opportunity as advantageous for both participating students and our company.
“Securing work experience in the legal profession can often prove difficult, so we’re glad to be able to do something to help the next generation of lawyers,” said Alixandra.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain first-hand experience of what it’s actually like to work in a busy law firm and see how the legal sector operates.
“Like many of my colleagues, I did work experience when I was a student at the start of my career and this is a great way for us to give something back to the community we serve.”
Donna Bainbridge, the University of Sunderland Partnerships & Work-integrated Learning Officer in the Centre for Graduate Prospects, said “Equipping our students with the employability and enterprise skills they need to thrive throughout their lives is the University’s top priority. We look forward to building on our collaboration with Longden, Walker & Renney to further develop the opportunities for our students to succeed, whilst helping drive wider local and regional growth in this sector.”
The establishment of our new work experience partnership with the University of Sunderland swiftly follows the recruitment of two new Graduate Paralegals, with Ben Crudace and Darci Watson-Rutherford joining our Clinical Negligence team.
