Make your Will and make a difference – get involved in Free Wills Month

Making a Will is one of the most important things you can do to protect your loved ones and ensure your final wishes are carried out. But many people still put it off.

That’s why we’re proud to be taking part in Free Wills Month, helping to raise awareness and make it easier for those aged 55 and over to get their Will written or updated.

Taking place every March, Free Wills Month allows individuals aged 55 and over to have a simple Will prepared by a qualified solicitor at no cost (*). In return, we encourage you to consider leaving a charitable donation in your Will to one of the campaign’s partner charities.

Laura Robinson, the Head of our Wills, Trusts and Probate Department, believes the initiative is a valuable opportunity to emphasise the importance of taking control of your future and ensuring your wishes are legally protected.

“Having a Will in place is the best way to ensure your final wishes are carried out, giving you peace of mind that your loved ones will be taken care of in the future,” explained Laura.

“Making a Will is important at any stage of life, but particularly for those over 55. It ensures your assets go exactly where you want them to – whether that’s to family, friends or a cause close to your heart.

“By removing the financial barriers of making a Will, this scheme makes it accessible to those who might otherwise have put it off.

“You don’t have to leave a donation, but many people choose to leave a legacy gift to charity, and even the smallest one can make a significant impact.”

Your donation can make a big difference

(*) For complete clarity on costs, you do NOT have to make a donation or leave a gift in your Will to charity.

Only disbursements of £7.00 for HM Land Registry Office Copies and £5.60 per Client for Online ID Checks are payable by you, with the cost of the Will itself being covered by the Free Wills Month Organisation.

Once your Will has been written, we will store it at no charge.

If after our initial meeting, it appears that your Will could be more complicated (e.g. Inheritance Tax saving measures or a Trust is required) we will agree a fee with you before proceeding further.
